Not art, just an update.

Hope you all had a fabulous NYE, and have a happy and healthy new year!

I am a cave person.

I have spent over 50 hours in the darkroom in the past week. I cannot WAIT for this semester to be over. This work is killing me.

I wasn’t going to post the working prints of my final projects, but since I’ve been doing so much work I would like to share my progress with the rest of the world (and maybe this will explain why you haven’t seen/heard from me in weeks).

Keep in mind these prints aren’t done yet and the photos are crappy iphone photos. Also, any funny glares are from my light reflecting off the sheet protectors my prints are in (not some weird printing error).

As always, printed on RC Pearl Paper in my new home, the darkroom (or cave, as I like to call it).

Needs to be spot toned (this was the only dirty negative I encountered, though). Needs to be burned on the left. Not sure of the exposure times.

1/2 Filter on 8 f/stop for 43 seconds. 4 filter for 2 seconds (just to pop the blacks). Wall is dodged, window and white blanket are burned.

Split filtered on 8 f/stop. 00 for 25 seconds. 3 for 31 seconds. Dodge trees above house for 10 seconds.

I need to reprint this without with different filters to get less contrast (and to get rid of the fuzz I would need to spot tone out). For this print I used an 8 f/stop. 00 for 4 seconds. 4 for 15 seconds. Dodged the right and bottom left, burned the dress and top left.

5.6 f/stop. 0 for 10 seconds. 4 for 36 seconds. Burn top right corner for 20 seconds with 2 filter.

Ignore the black on top of and below the photo. That will be cropped out when I mount the photo. Exposed for 26 seconds. 4 filter for 1.5 seconds to pop darks.

This is too contrasty and needs to be reprinted with different filters. 8 f/stop. 00 for 4? seconds (2? with sky covered). 4 for 6?seconds (4? seconds with sky covered, 2? seconds dodging shadows).

8 f/stop. Exposed 7 seconds. 4 for 4 seconds. Burn shirt (top right).

5.6 f/stop. 00 for 60 seconds. 4 for 2 seconds. Dodge grass.

I think I going to get rid of this print and use another picture of my mother’s tombstone. 8 f/stop. 0 for 10 seconds. 4 for 50 seconds. Welp, time to go back to doing my homework! Good night!

School blows.

It’s almost 4am. I got home around midnight after school all day and a night shoot with Brant. Then I came home and studied photography for 4 hours because I have an exam on Wednesday. I have never wanted to drop out of school more than I have tonight.

On a lighter note, I pretty much know everything there is to know about photography. It’s true! Just ask…. seriously.

Misc Visuals

My second home lately. The darkroom. <3

My favorite print so far. The stem of my hookah.

Ilford Pearl Photo Paper (8x10), exposed and developed in a darkroom.

In figure drawing I’ve been experimenting with bamboo pen and india ink. I liked this as a line drawing. Then we had to do various cross hatching techniques and it killed it. Ugh.

More experimenting.

This looks less abrasive in real life. I’m actually quite happy with how this turned out.

Photography

Our second assignment in Photo I was to shoot and develop 2 rolls (72 exposures) of film on ONE object. I picked my Hookah. After I develop the rolls of film I then have to make a contact sheet (like a homemade index print) and 4 split filtered prints out of the 72.

This is a contact sheet showing my negatives (in positives), so I can see what each picture will look like when it’s printed.

First print. Spilt filtered.

Second Print. Split filtered… although I might go back and print the darks 3 seconds shorter.

Collages.

I’m been searching, printing, cutting, and collaging like crazy! Here’s three 3x3inch collages.

Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test: Various images downloaded and printed of the internet, Black rub-on

Tie Dye Drugs (left): Various images downloaded and printed of the internet.

Mushrooms (right):Various images downloaded and printed of the internet, Red Starbucks gift-card envelope, Black rub-on, Various colored micron pens (05 and 01).

This is the start of my self portrait. It’s not finished yet (obviously).

This is a set of negatives that I took and developed by hand. The purple spots are places where I loaded the film on a reel (before developing) incorrectly. Since I didn’t load it properly it, those spots were not able to be exposed to the developing mixture. :(
Not too bad for a first try. :)
Kodak T-Max 400 (Black and White) Film, hand developed in a darkroom.

These are some Photograms I made by exposing light sensitive paper (under various objects), in the darkroom. Keep in mind these are the ones I did not turn in (so I have better ones!)

Ilford Pearl Photo Paper (8x10), exposed and developed in a darkroom. Objects: A clutch (forever 21), a shot glass from Israel, a cube from Alaska, a handmade plexiglass keychain (made by me), a peacock feather earring (forever 21), and a piece of lace.

Today in Figure Drawing I drew my first nude model. Here are two 20 minute sketches.

Sketched with Soft Graphite, shaded with compressed charcoal.
